“I couldn’t sleep last night, again. So everything has become dreamlike — Even lunch pulsates with an unknowable as it is vibe”
“In an ideal world, I would love anchovies — The ‘idea’ of them appealed when I was a child — The reality never met my expectations — In 2019 I ordered an anchovies pizza while in Denmark just to remind myself how little I like them — It seemed natural then to use them as a cornerstone of a biographical recipe, being the oppositional-defiant I am”
“They still taste like the above image — But the more I reached for the root of my objection, the more I studied their flavor profile, the more I enjoyed them”
“Unknowability is inherent in everything”
“I find it helpful to be reminded, we’re not just a brick, we are also the wall”
“Not just the anchovy but the whole darn pizza”
“Not just the light, its tilt and everything else in this night”
I’m glad I got your perspective on this. I’ve been hankering to try anchovies on pizza only because it has been offered as a topping on every pizza menu, everywhere, forever. While I love many kinds of seafood, I don’t like sardines, etc., and I imagine anchovies to be somehow similar to them. Either way, I’ve lost all interest in trying them after reading how your own drive to try them (which was somehow similar to mine) ended up.
Hard to say
