It’s hard to fix the inevitability of 23

We used to paint

Well y’all, another transition time, not that they aren’t happening every second of every day, but it’s my birthday month, the gathering of the Bull clan — for those who’ve survived anyhow. Time to shake things up a bit. I may even *gasp* skip a few days or even a few weeks. I found this year’s poetry month to be exceptionally inspiring, although I produced only a few poems ‘I liked.’

Considering other directions while I work on a little project whose working title is “Nerd, Geek, Freak” I welcome thoughts. More poetry? More Pictures? Less of everything?

A sphere of light far less warm

Happened to a different body
following, a vital current he
arrived in San Francisco again
for the first time, having released
academia, he had time for Pynchon
although trying to squeeze into written
history presented certain challenges
to an angular post Buffalo frame
one still relatively happy to drop
acid in Golden Gate Park to be
led into a Led Zepplin laser
light show by a line of Elves
heading to the Western
Lands, or to score
wormwood laced
pseudo hash

From the nice boy outside
the projects, who he thanked
the next time he saw him on
his way back from the Armadillo
bar, where he had been reading
hating the taste of Anchor Steam
yet committed to the shortest
route from immigrant to
local, since the letters
proved to be too tight
a fit for anything
but his eyes

PS
He knew he succeeded
when years later, just before
he left for good, he visited
the old neighborhood
and found the bar
long gone

Replaced by a French Patisserie
since the Croque Monsieur 
was marvelous, he barely
complained about the loss
of a sphere of light, far less
warm than the one
he remembered.
