Civilization and its Distillates
Con/Jur/d, 6/18/2023 

       Due to you
we remember how those 
things go, even though
it’s never happened to us

The fear, the loneliness
not to be wished on others
living the curse of civilization
although the triumph

            O the triumph!

If it could be decanted
in a cordial, we would
drink our fill, laughing
embracing in kinship

          it would leave us
wanting the next day
if the bitterness and
despair, those low
notes were
                 distilled out
