A year ago — how much has changed — Today I head in a different direction — always a cemetery at the end — Even in SF where they removed the headstones but not the bodies (some cemeteries remain — my favorites: Mission Dolores and the Columbarium right off of the industrialized chaos of Geary) — if you go for long enough — it still ends like this
What better salute to an empire in decline?
We were distracted — again — barely did we notice the monoliths and their living attachments — rather the trees — O the trees!
What was frozen yesterday is melted today

Familiar streets have knotted sigiled guardians where only green stood before
I love whoever made this decision — even if at the bequest of alien gods — or an almost lost tradition
Drought remains unlikely despite the forfeit of snow
I would refuse to move until my Hitchcock imitation is acknowledged with the accolades it deserves — people watch me — knowing somehow I’m not here to pay my respects
Even cut to the quick — branchless — leaveless — with little hope of resurrection — they remain strong and beautiful
a wonderful lesson to remember as we apes age

Well, y’all, while carving today’s gate(less) I heard something (new to me) marvelous. YRMD

The cemeteries here... Fir Trees on the main, lots of little graves of pioneer and a generation later. 1 family, 4 children in under 2 weeks. The hearts broken.

The war dead, those that served, row after row.

All empire ends.
