On that side
the threat of hellfire
11 and the J word
                  soap water

Sure, you get the runs after

They seemed sexless
2 boys birthed
            despite appearances

Never liked the middle name
                         he died at 12

wanted nothing to do with

             walled worship
             fearful wind possessed 
             peoples, huddled flocks
             obstructed by steeples

dad never talked about his brother
although, he mentioned cards
were forbidden

         know 52 ways to do divination
after ee, always wrote a lowercase d

damnation has always seemed 
the least of the worries

when talking of the future
         hard not to talk in the Voice

gripping the pulpit
        scrubbing away

it could be better

The Wilderness
isn’t the exception

it is
the lone 
Voice
         
even now we can
hear it.
