John Clarke Died 10 years after I had him as a writing professor

He used to say the greatest struggle in life was to synchronize the desire to be alone when you were lonely — and the need for other people when they surround you — he claimed he never learned the trick and less than a decade later was dead

After 40 years — a few bad relationships — poor choices and a pan-fried pandemic — I understand him better

I said, “I haven’t decided if I’m going yet.”
She said, “You’re not going.”
“Then why do I bother seesawing back and forth?”
