Sitting in Café Trieste
Americano and carrot cake
we could have had this waking
up -- anytime for 25 years
12 years ago now

why we moved to San Francisco
in the first place, to walk in
be seen as, as an echo


OF

the dharma, the WAY
instead, among my cohort
old artists, reading a GODDAMN
physical newspaper, voices
like the rustle of yellowed
paperback pages, they
speak of how it played out
how it plays out, we’re
a visitor, unseen

UNREAD

having made OTHER

CHOICES/MISTAKES

poking at their phone
writing to you, still 

E.X.P.E.R.I.M.E.N.T.I.N.G.

marveling at the WAY
this dharma goes.
