Since the last time we took this walk — a neighbor has added a friend

Part of us is still traveling (always will be) — and the rest — having arrived — feels a collusion of hours — stacked back to back — all around us

An Awkward Prayer

and the act of creation, we’ve 
been told it’s better to show 
than to tell, in our experience
the embodied is always
better than the revealed

“Tomorrow’s gonna be difficult
can you believe the groom’s
men only tipped 5 bucks on
a 95.65 bar tab?”

Having been raised under Luther’s 
shadow of The Hanging Judge, we
understood, a past life in food 
service helps parse her awkward
prayer

A different place ruled by other gods
the kidz wanted tattoos to mark
the trip to Denmark, being Beast 
marked inquired as to the amount
of tip expected, “Don’t bring your
toxic, obsequious, master, servant
culture here!” they responded

A different kind of invocation
“May you always have enough 
to eat, a place to sleep, and
the ability to know what god
you address”

A view from my hometown — growing up there — I wouldn’t have guessed it would become exactly like everywhere else
